Junk removal guide
What to tell a junk removal company
Junk removal is priced on volume, weight, labor and disposal. Describe those four things clearly and you get a real quote instead of a vague range that changes on the driveway.
How to describe the job
- 1
Estimate the volume honestly
Crews price by how much truck space the load takes. 'A garage's worth', 'one room of furniture' or 'about a pickup load' is more useful than 'some stuff'.
- 2
Name the heavy and awkward items
Sofas, mattresses, appliances, pianos, hot tubs and construction debris are handled and priced differently from bags and boxes.
- 3
Say where the items are
Curbside, garage, backyard, third floor without an elevator — where the load sits changes the labor involved.
- 4
Mention anything hazardous
Paint, chemicals, batteries, fuel and asbestos-containing material usually cannot go on a standard truck and need specialist disposal.
- 5
Give a timeframe
Same-week, a specific date, or flexible — availability and sometimes price follow your schedule.
A quick checklist before you ask
- What is being removed, in plain words: furniture, appliances, yard waste, renovation debris
- Roughly how much: a few items, a room, a whole garage, a truckload
- Where it sits and any stairs, narrow gates or long carries
- Whether anything may be hazardous or unusually heavy
- Your ZIP code and when you want it gone
The junk removal request form asks for these details once and checks for an eligible option in your area.
